Initial visit (Oct 19) — Mike S: Reported concern The customer reported that the dryer drum tumbles continuously whenever the door is closed, even with the control panel powered off. This uncommanded operation creates a potential safety hazard and prevents normal cycle control. Assessment Diagnostic testing confirmed that closing the door immediately engages the drive motor regardless of power status. The heating element does not engage during this state, and opening the door properly opens the door switch circuit to stop the motor. These findings point to a motor relay on the powertrain control board (PCB) that has failed closed, continuously supplying voltage to the motor whenever the door switch is actuated. The appliance is part of a stacked unit located in a tight closet enclosure. Accessing the control components will require a second technician to assist with safely moving the stacked unit out of the space, which involves an additional labor charge. Research indicates that the powertrain control board is discontinued by the manufacturer and on an extended backorder, limiting original equipment manufacturer (OEM) part availability. Next steps It is recommended to replace the powertrain control board to restore proper relay operation and prevent unintended tumbling. Due to the discontinued status of the control board, options for sourcing an approved replacement, refurbished board, or control board repair service should be evaluated prior to scheduling a two-person team for unit extraction.
